I was fortunate enough to live in the mountains of Arizona right on the edge of national forest land for several years where some of the largest Rocky Mountain Elk in the US forage. My favorite time of year there is the fall rut season when Bull Elk bugling is a common sound. I got to know a herd and their habits pretty well. As soon as I would come across them, they would quickly move off into the brush. I would then hide and soon they would circle back to where they first saw me.
