About David Henry
Award winning artist David Henry has always been interested in the natural world.
"Growing up I was constantly watching wildlife documentaries, signing up for biology classes and jumping at any opportunity to spend time hiking in the woods or visiting the ocean. My heroes were Jacques Cousteau and Marlin Perkins."
This passion finally found an avenue of development in the form of art, particularly sculpture. His art reflects a balance of realism, anatomical accuracy and artistic form. Each piece has a story or event behind it that inspired David to take it from a concept and raw clay to completed bronze. He seeks his inspiration through travel and research, believing that knowing a subject as well as possible is critical before ever starting a piece.
In 1996, he began training at the Sedona Arts Center in Sedona, Arizona where he studied with Eugenia Everett and Ken Ottinger. Since leaving his native Arizona he has relocated to Eugene, Oregon near the Pacific coast where he regularly scuba dives and hikes in the mountains to be closer to his subjects.
